Week 6: Happy Thanksgiving!

October 14, 2008 - Filed under Weekly Report

I can’t believe it’s that time of year already. Not surprisingly it doesn’t feel anything like Thanksgiving. No cold fall weather, no turkey, and no friends or family to share it with. That’s not to say that the day went by unnoticed, it definitely didn’t. I thought about all of you back home and wondered how you were spending your holiday. I wondered who was hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year, and whether or not Randal had been put in charge of the turkey again. I also thought about our new life here, and how thankful I am that we are able to do this, and more importantly that we’re able to do this together. I know that may sound cheesy, but hey, that’s what this day is all about.

Anyway, this week was a little more eventful than the last couple. We took some time to explore some of the local sites, and even spend a few days away on a little mini vacation. We still did a lot of the usual, lounging by the pool and swimming in the ocean, we just added a few other things this week.

On tuesday we took a day away from the beach and went to Casaroro Falls. The falls themselves were pretty cool, and the hike, although steep, actually wasn’t too bad. It was a great way to spend the better part of a day, even if we were pretty sore for the next couple of days.

For the weekend we decided to spend a few days visiting one of the neighboring islands. We figured since everyone back home would be on holiday Monday, that we’d take the opportunity to get away from our computers and not worry about work or any incoming emails.

Now that we’ve settled into our apartment here, we’re hoping to do a couple of little trips like that every month while we explore as much of the Philippines as we can.  Tomorrow I’ll write about our trip to Siquijor, but for now, I hope you all had a fantastic turkey day!

Happy belated Thanksgiving Kelly and Mike!

Reading your entries gets me all nostalgic of our previous life abroad and makes me envious of all the new experiences you two are experiencing over there.

    Keep posting!
